THE STORY OF THE PROPHET MOSES - The Story of Female Cattle Slaughter by the Children of Israel

At the time of the Prophet Moses, there was someone from the tribe of Israel who was rich. He has abundant assets and is very old. He has several nieces and nephews. His nephews hoped for his death so that they could obtain an inheritance in the form of wealth. So one of his nieces killed him in the middle of the night and dumped him at the intersection. Some say that he threw away his uncle's body at the front door of one of them.

In the morning, people talk to each other about the murder and are still looking for who the killer was. Then came the victim's niece. He shouted and confessed that tyranny had taken place. People just realized that they should not have to fight to find the killer and they should have left the matter to the Prophet Moses.

The nephew met the Prophet Moses and told the Prophet about the disaster. Prophet Moses said that Allah SWT would praise someone who knew who killed that person. But no one knows it. They asked the Prophet Moses to plead with Allah SWT to know the killer.

Prophet Moses asked Allah SWT about it. Allah ordered to slaughter a female cow. When people heard the words of the Prophet Moses about the order, they assumed Moses was mocking them. They want to know who the killer is but instead hear something that is considered to have no correlation.

Prophet Moses responded by saying that he took refuge in Allah so as not to say anything other than those revealed by Allah SWT. Indeed it is an answer from Allah SWT in order to solve the problem of murder.

Surah Al-Baqarah verse 67:

67.  And [recall] when Moses said to his people, "Indeed, Allah commands you to slaughter a cow." They said, "Do you take us in ridicule?" He said, "I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant."

Instead of immediately searching for any female cow to slaughter, the Children of Israel actually troubled themselves by asking about the characteristics of the female cow in detail. They are answered with something very rare. They were ordered to slaughter middle-aged female cows, those who were not old and not young. They also asked again about the color of the female cow. So they were ordered to slaughter an old yellow cow and please those who looked at it. They still ask again because they are still confused about the true characteristics of the female cow. The characteristics given are more detailed. They were ordered to slaughter a female cow that had never been used to plow the land and had not been used to irrigate crops. The female cow is healthy and has no defects. There is also no strip of animal skin, which is no other color besides the original color on the skin. After being explained in as much detail as possible, then they assume that the female cow is clearly defined.

That said, they only found the female cow in a man from among them. The person is very devoted to his parents. They want to ask the cow, but that person doesn't want to give it. Then, they tried to buy it for the price of gold as heavy as the female cow, but the person still refused. Finally, they bought the female cow with the price of gold weighing ten times the weight of the female cow. That person wants to sell it.

After getting the female cow, Prophet Moses ordered them to slaughter it. But they were hesitant to do it and almost didn't do it. After being slaughtered, Prophet Moses conveyed Allah's command to them to hit the body of the killed person with a part of the female cow. Some say the part of the tongue, or the flesh of the thigh, or the bone that is connected to the cartilage, or the piece of flesh that is between the shoulders.

Surah Al-Baqarah verses 68-73:

68.  They said, "Call upon your Lord to make clear to us what it is." [Moses] said, "[Allah] says, 'It is a cow which is neither old nor virgin, but median between that,' so do what you are commanded."
69.  They said, "Call upon your Lord to show us what is her color." He said, "He says, 'It is a yellow cow, bright in color - pleasing to the observers.' "
70.  They said, "Call upon your Lord to make clear to us what it is. Indeed, [all] cows look alike to us. And indeed we, if Allah wills, will be guided."
71.  He said, "He says, 'It is a cow neither trained to plow the earth nor to irrigate the field, one free from fault with no spot upon her.' " They said, "Now you have come with the truth." So they slaughtered her, but they could hardly do it.
72.  And [recall] when you slew a man and disputed over it, but Allah was to bring out that which you were concealing.
73.  So, We said, "Strike the slain man with part of it." Thus does Allah bring the dead to life, and He shows you His signs that you might reason.

After the body was beaten, Allah SWT revived the murdered person. He rose with blood still flowing. Prophet Moses asked him, "Who killed you?" He replied, "The one who killed me is my own niece." Then he returned to being a corpse as before.

Surah Luqman verse 28:

28.  Your creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing.
