THE STORY OF THE PROPHET ADAM - The Devil's Persuasion of Adam and Eve for Eating the Forbidden Fruit

Satan has vowed to mislead Adam and his descendants. He tried to keep Prophet Adam expelled from heaven. At one time the devil managed to enter heaven. At that time Prophet Adam and Eve felt thirsty and hungry. The Devil approached and said, "O Prophet Adam, you and your wife look hungry and thirsty. Eat the fruit before you. Look, the color is very beautiful and fresh, the fragrance is so fragrant, and certainly tastes delicious."

Prophet Adam did know, the fruit before him did look different from other fruits. But the fruit is a forbidden fruit. Adam did not want to pick it. The devil also persuaded Eve but Eve also did not want to eat the fruit.

The devil is disappointed and hurt. But he didn't give up. At one point he approached Prophet Adam again. He said, "Why does God forbid you from eating this fruit? So that you do not become angels. For if you eat it, you will become eternal dwellers in heaven. Believe me, I am a friend who gives good advice."

The founding of Prophet Adam remains unshakable. Prophet Adam did not want to obey the words of the devil to eat the forbidden fruit.

On another occasion, the devil approached Adam and Eve again. The devil chooses the right time. Prophet Adam and Eve just walked in heaven. They are too tired. At that moment the devil said, "O Prophet Adam. Know that actually only angels are allowed to eat the fruit. For by eating the fruit the angels can live forever without experiencing death."

Prophet Adam and Eve began to hear the words of the devil.

"We have heard the secret of God before you were created," continued the devil. "That you will not live long. You will die for some time. If you want eternal life, then eat the fruit. It tastes delicious. Stupid if you don't obey my words."

Satan continued his persuasion, "I swear before you, By Allah, I only advise you, because I feel sorry for you. The prohibition of God is nothing but that you cannot live forever in this heaven."
Eve was exposed to the persuasion of the devil and said to Prophet Adam. "Apparently the words of the devil are true. He has sworn in the name of God."

At that time Adam and Eve did feel tired, hungry and thirsty. A weak heart, she approached the Khuldi fruit tree and picked the fruit. Both of them then ate the fruit. The taste of the fruit is indeed very delicious so both of them forget the prohibition of Allah SWT.

Allah SWT denounced their actions and said: "Did I not forbid you both from approaching the tree, and I said to him; Surely the Satan is your real enemy."

Prophet Adam and Eve regretted their actions. Moreover their nakedness is opened after eating the fruit. They ran around here and covered their nakedness with the leaves of heaven. They feel ashamed and afraid to hear the word of Allah SWT. In the end the Prophet Adam and Eve realized that they could not hide themselves from Allah the All-Knowing.

This story is based on Sura Al-A'raaf verses 20-22:

20.  But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal."
21.  And he swore [by Allah] to them, "Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors."
22.  So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?"

Also narrated in the Sura Thaahaa verse 120-121:

120.  Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?"
121.  And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.

With bowed shame, regret for the sins they have committed, they pray to Allah SWT so that their mistakes are forgiven. Here are the prayers of the Prophet Adam and Eve which are contained in Sura Al-A'raaf verse 23:

23.  They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers."
