THE STORY OF THE PROPHET DAVID - Miracles, Privileges, and Life of Prophet David as King

David became King of the Children of Israel replacing Thalut who had died. Although he gained power, David was not a person who would be complacent by his kingdom. Prophet David always worshiped and thanked Allah SWT.

David received a holy book called Zabur (the Psalms?) from Allah SWT. Zabur contains lessons, warnings, and songs of praise to Allah SWT.

Surah Al-Isra’ verse 55:

وَرَبُّكَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ وَلَقَدۡ فَضَّلۡنَا بَعۡضَ ٱلنَّبِيِّ‍ۧنَ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٖۖ وَءَاتَيۡنَا دَاوُۥدَ زَبُورٗا  ٥٥

55.  And your Lord is most knowing of whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And We have made some of the prophets exceed others [in various ways], and to David We gave the book [of Psalms].

Allah SWT taught the Prophet David about various things. Allah SWT taught the language of birds to David. The Prophet David was also blessed with a beautiful and sweet voice. When people heard his voice, they felt happy and faith entered their hearts. That said, David's voice was like the swishing of running water and the singing of birds in the spring.

Allah SWT made iron soft for processing by David. Without using fire or any tool, iron softens like a candle and can be made as David wishes. From the iron, David was able to make solid war armor for those who fought in the way of Allah SWT. He also made continuous chain circles intertwine. Allah ordered the Prophet David to measure the plaits of the armor that is not to install with nails because it would become closed (difficult to move) and not too thick because it would easily crack, this was the opinion of Mujahid, Qatadah, Al Hakim, Ikrimah. The armor made the wearer able to move freely, not stiffly like armor made of sheet metal. Allah SWT has taught this to David so that believing soldiers can protect themselves while fighting.

Allah SWT has subdued the mountains in order to join in praising the glory of Allah SWT with Prophet David who was worshiping or reading the book of Zabur in the morning and evening. The birds were also subdued by Allah SWT to gather and sing along with Prophet David to praise Allah SWT.

Surah Al-Anbiya verses 79-80:

فَفَهَّمۡنَٰهَا سُلَيۡمَٰنَۚ وَكُلًّا ءَاتَيۡنَا حُكۡمٗا وَعِلۡمٗاۚ وَسَخَّرۡنَا مَعَ دَاوُۥدَ ٱلۡجِبَالَ يُسَبِّحۡنَ وَٱلطَّيۡرَۚ وَكُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ  ٧٩ وَعَلَّمۡنَٰهُ صَنۡعَةَ لَبُوسٖ لَّكُمۡ لِتُحۡصِنَكُم مِّنۢ بَأۡسِكُمۡۖ فَهَلۡ أَنتُمۡ شَٰكِرُونَ  ٨٠

79.  And We gave understanding of the case to Solomon, and to each [of them] We gave judgement and knowledge. And We subjected the mountains to exalt [Us], along with David and [also] the birds. And We were doing [that].

80.  And We taught him the fashioning of coats of armor to protect you from your [enemy in] battle. So will you then be grateful?

Surah Saba' verses 10-11:

۞وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا دَاوُۥدَ مِنَّا فَضۡلٗاۖ يَٰجِبَالُ أَوِّبِي مَعَهُۥ وَٱلطَّيۡرَۖ وَأَلَنَّا لَهُ ٱلۡحَدِيدَ  ١٠ أَنِ ٱعۡمَلۡ سَٰبِغَٰتٖ وَقَدِّرۡ فِي ٱلسَّرۡدِۖ وَٱعۡمَلُواْ صَٰلِحًاۖ إِنِّي بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِيرٞ  ١١

10.  And We certainly gave David from Us bounty. [We said], "O mountains, repeat [Our] praises with him, and the birds [as well]." And We made pliable for him iron,

11.  [Commanding him], "Make full coats of mail and calculate [precisely] the links, and work [all of you] righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Seeing."

Surah Shad verses 18-19:

إِنَّا سَخَّرۡنَا ٱلۡجِبَالَ مَعَهُۥ يُسَبِّحۡنَ بِٱلۡعَشِيِّ وَٱلۡإِشۡرَاقِ  ١٨ وَٱلطَّيۡرَ مَحۡشُورَةٗۖ كُلّٞ لَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٞ  ١٩

18.  Indeed, We subjected the mountains [to praise] with him, exalting [Allah] in the [late] afternoon and [after] sunrise.

19.  And the birds were assembled, all with him repeating [praises].

David was a fair and wise king. He leads his people according to the law of Allah SWT. The people felt happiness and prosperity during his reign. David set aside a third of the night specifically to worship Allah SWT. He loves Allah SWT and Allah SWT loves him. Prophet David diligently fasted. A day of fasting and a day of not fasting repeatedly, this is known as David's fasting.

From ‘Abdullah bin‘ Amr bin Al ‘Ash, he said that the Rasulullah Shallallaahu‘ Alaihi wa Sallam said to him: "The best prayer in the sight of Allah is the prayer of the Prophet David alaihis salam. And the best of fasting by Allah is the fasting of David. The Prophet David used to sleep in the middle of the night and he prayed in a third of the night and slept again at one sixth. There is a fast of David, which is fasting a day and not fasting the next day. "(Hadith History of Bukhari no. 1131). translated from Indonesian

David was a king and a prophet. He regulates his time, life and work. He divided his time into four parts, namely time to fulfill his personal needs, to worship Allah SWT, to decide cases as judges, and to educate his children.
