Prophet Yahya (John) was a prophet that Allah SWT
created that no one was like with him before. Prophet Yahya was born through
the prayer of a holy and noble man, namely Prophet Zechariah, his father.
Surah Maryam verses 12-15:
يَٰيَحۡيَىٰ
خُذِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ بِقُوَّةٖۖ وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلۡحُكۡمَ صَبِيّٗا ١٢ وَحَنَانٗا مِّن لَّدُنَّا وَزَكَوٰةٗۖ
وَكَانَ تَقِيّٗا ١٣ وَبَرَّۢا
بِوَٰلِدَيۡهِ وَلَمۡ يَكُن جَبَّارًا عَصِيّٗا
١٤ وَسَلَٰمٌ عَلَيۡهِ يَوۡمَ وُلِدَ وَيَوۡمَ يَمُوتُ وَيَوۡمَ يُبۡعَثُ
حَيّٗا ١٥
12. [Allah] said, "O
John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement
[while yet] a boy
13. And
affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah
14. And
dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant.
15. And peace
be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised
alive.
Prophet Yahya (John) was blessed with extraordinary
love from Allah SWT. "Hanan" is a broad science in which a love of
all beings and nature is contained. Hanan is one of the levels of love that
comes from knowledge. Prophet Yahya loves all beings. He is loved by humans,
animals, even mountains and deserts.
Yahya (John) was born when Jewish society lived a
life full of evil and lies. They are materialistic. The contents of the book of
the Torah have been changed by them so that they deviate from the teachings of
Allah SWT. For them, faith and kindness are not important, the important thing
is to be able to accumulate as much wealth as possible and obtain an worldly
position. However, among the ugliness, there was a holy woman named Maryam
(Mary) who exuded a positive aura in Baitul Maqdis.
Yahya (John) lived his childhood not like other
childrens. Usually childrens play and have fun, but Yahya is serious and thinks
about everything. When the childrens approached Yahya saying, "Let's play
around." Yahya answered politely, "I was not created to play
games." Yahya always thought about the causes of the Jews doing things
that were deviant and could be controlled by the Romans. Yahya concluded that
this was because the Children of Israel had abandoned the teachings of the true
religion. Yahya never did useless things. Since childhood Yahya likes to read
books and learn various sciences. Yahya also likes to feed animals and birds
because of his compassion.
Allah SWT called Yahya who was still a child to take
the Torah seriously. That is, Yahya was instructed to study the Torah
diligently and thoroughly. Allah SWT has also given the ability to Yahya to
know the Shari'a and get solutions about the things of human life. Prophet
Yahya explained to his people about religious knowledge, even told about the
path of truth and reminded him not to follow a false path.
Growing up, the insight of Prophet Yahya (John) grew
and his love was increasing for humans and all beings. Prophet Yahya invites
people to repent to Allah SWT due to their sins. He bathed the converts on the
Jordan River as a sign that they had purified themselves. He also invited them
to believe and worship Allah SWT. Prophet Yahya is a person who is very loved
by his people, because he is indeed a merciful and pious person.
Prophet Yahya always diligently worshiped Allah SWT
wherever and whenever. He was alone in a place for a long time to remember
Allah SWT and glorify Him. Even at night he continued to recite to Allah SWT
solemnly. He felt peace and his heart became serene. He only eats simple foods
that are important enough to increase the body's energy. He also continues to
feed other animals and treat them well.
When Prophet Yahya invited humans to worship Allah
SWT, people who heard him felt calm and aroused love for Allah SWT, even
crying. He taught the truth with courtesy so that it could affect the human
heart. Indeed, Prophet Yahya is a person who is very close to Allah SWT.
