In her quiet room, Mary always glorified Allah SWT.
Mary's faith was indeed extraordinary. From his face there was the calmness of
a holy girl. Mary was able to resist the temptations of worldly pleasures. Mary
really has nothing to do with the hustle and bustle of the outside world which
is full of deception and lies.
Surah Ali Imran verses 42-43:
وَإِذۡ
قَالَتِ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ يَٰمَرۡيَمُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصۡطَفَىٰكِ وَطَهَّرَكِ وَٱصۡطَفَىٰكِ
عَلَىٰ نِسَآءِ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٤٢
يَٰمَرۡيَمُ ٱقۡنُتِي لِرَبِّكِ وَٱسۡجُدِي وَٱرۡكَعِي مَعَ ٱلرَّٰكِعِينَ ٤٣
42. And [mention] when the angels said, "O
Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the
women of the worlds.
43. O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and
prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]."
Surah Maryam verses 16-17:
وَٱذۡكُرۡ
فِي ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ مَرۡيَمَ إِذِ ٱنتَبَذَتۡ مِنۡ أَهۡلِهَا مَكَانٗا شَرۡقِيّٗا ١٦ فَٱتَّخَذَتۡ مِن دُونِهِمۡ حِجَابٗا
فَأَرۡسَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡهَا رُوحَنَا فَتَمَثَّلَ لَهَا بَشَرٗا سَوِيّٗا ١٧
16. And mention, [O Muhammad], in the Book [the
story of] Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place toward the east.
17. And she
took, in seclusion from them, a screen. Then We sent to her Our Angel, and he
represented himself to her as a well-proportioned man.
One day, a bright aura appeared in Mary's room. A
young man suddenly arrived and approached Mary. Mary felt anxious and afraid of
the strange man, so Mary begged for protection from Allah SWT.
Surah Maryam verse 18:
قَالَتۡ
إِنِّيٓ أَعُوذُ بِٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ مِنكَ إِن كُنتَ تَقِيّٗا ١٨
18. She said, "Indeed, I seek refuge in the
Most Merciful from you, [so leave me], if you should be fearing of Allah."
The young man explained what really happened to
Mary. He explained that he was an angel and brought good news to Mary.
Surah Ali Imran verses 45-46:
إِذۡ
قَالَتِ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ يَٰمَرۡيَمُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُبَشِّرُكِ بِكَلِمَةٖ
مِّنۡهُ ٱسۡمُهُ ٱلۡمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ٱبۡنُ مَرۡيَمَ وَجِيهٗا فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ
وَمِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِينَ ٤٥ وَيُكَلِّمُ ٱلنَّاسَ
فِي ٱلۡمَهۡدِ وَكَهۡلٗا وَمِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ
٤٦
45. [And mention] when the angels said, "O
Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will
be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the
Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah].
46. He will speak to the people in the cradle and
in maturity and will be of the righteous."
Surah Maryam verse 19:
قَالَ
إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ رَسُولُ رَبِّكِ لِأَهَبَ لَكِ غُلَٰمٗا زَكِيّٗا ١٩
19. He said, "I am only the messenger of
your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy."
Hearing the angel's words, Mary felt confused and
thought that maybe she would give birth to a baby boy, even though she was not
married and no man touched her. She asked angels about how things that did not
make sense could happen.
Surah Maryam verse 20:
قَالَتۡ
أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِي غُلَٰمٞ وَلَمۡ يَمۡسَسۡنِي بَشَرٞ وَلَمۡ أَكُ بَغِيّٗا ٢٠
20. She said, "How can I have a boy while no
man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?"
Angels answer well. In essence, Allah is
All-Powerful over all things.
Surah Ali Imran verses 47-48:
قَالَتۡ
رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِي وَلَدٞ وَلَمۡ يَمۡسَسۡنِي بَشَرٞۖ قَالَ كَذَٰلِكِ ٱللَّهُ
يَخۡلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰٓ أَمۡرٗا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن
فَيَكُونُ ٤٧ وَيُعَلِّمُهُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ
وَٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةَ وَٱلۡإِنجِيلَ ٤٨
47. She said, "My Lord, how will I have a
child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allah;
He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,'
and it is.
48. And He will teach him writing and wisdom and
the Torah and the Gospel
Surah Maryam verse 21:
قَالَ
كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٞۖ وَلِنَجۡعَلَهُۥٓ ءَايَةٗ
لِّلنَّاسِ وَرَحۡمَةٗ مِّنَّاۚ وَكَانَ أَمۡرٗا مَّقۡضِيّٗا ٢١
21. He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord
says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy
from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.' "
Mary was a human born with miracles, and she would
also become a mother who got a miracle by giving birth to a boy named Isa, even
though Mary was a girl.
Then angels bring forth a gust of air that enters
Mary's body. Mary felt something was inside her body. Then the angel
disappeared. Mary realized that later she would go through difficult and
burdensome days. Mary has assumed a great responsibility from Allah SWT. In his
womb there is the Ruhullah who will explain the truth of the teachings of Allah
SWT. Mary was also worried that people would not believe what happened to her
and her son, because the child was born without a father.
Mary's stomach grew bigger. Mary left her chamber to
a place far from the community. She has strong determination and always
believes that Allah SWT will always protect her. With a big and heavy stomach,
Mary felt very tired after walking. So she sat leaning against a base of palm
trees. She felt very pain during childbirth, between life and death.
Surah Maryam verses 22-23:
۞فَحَمَلَتۡهُ فَٱنتَبَذَتۡ بِهِۦ مَكَانٗا قَصِيّٗا ٢٢ فَأَجَآءَهَا ٱلۡمَخَاضُ إِلَىٰ جِذۡعِ ٱلنَّخۡلَةِ
قَالَتۡ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي مِتُّ قَبۡلَ هَٰذَا وَكُنتُ نَسۡيٗا مَّنسِيّٗا ٢٣
22. So she conceived him, and she withdrew with
him to a remote place.
23. And the pains of childbirth drove her to the
trunk of a palm tree. She said, "Oh, I wish I had died before this and was
in oblivion, forgotten."
Suddenly the angel came to help Mary by showing the
food and drink that Allah SWT had blessed, namely dates and river water.
Surat Maryam verses 24-26:
فَنَادَىٰهَا
مِن تَحۡتِهَآ أَلَّا تَحۡزَنِي قَدۡ جَعَلَ رَبُّكِ تَحۡتَكِ سَرِيّٗا ٢٤ وَهُزِّيٓ إِلَيۡكِ بِجِذۡعِ ٱلنَّخۡلَةِ
تُسَٰقِطۡ عَلَيۡكِ رُطَبٗا جَنِيّٗا ٢٥
فَكُلِي وَٱشۡرَبِي وَقَرِّي عَيۡنٗاۖ فَإِمَّا تَرَيِنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡبَشَرِ أَحَدٗا
فَقُولِيٓ إِنِّي نَذَرۡتُ لِلرَّحۡمَٰنِ صَوۡمٗا فَلَنۡ أُكَلِّمَ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ
إِنسِيّٗا ٢٦
24. But he called her from below her, "Do
not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream.
25. And shake toward you the trunk of the palm
tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates.
26. So eat and drink and be contented. And if you
see from among humanity anyone, say, 'Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful
abstention, so I will not speak today to [any] man.' "
Mary felt calm, but still worried if people felt
suspicious of her. Maybe they would guess and say something strange.
Jesus (Isa) was born in this world without a father
as a miracle from Allah SWT. He will be a blessing for people. The holy baby is
happy in her mother's arms. Then Mary carried her baby and returned to the
place of his people.
When Mary and her baby arrived at the place of her
people, the Jews saw her carrying a baby in her arms. They were surprised and
wondered what they saw. It's strange if Mary is a girl seen carrying a baby
whose origin is unknown. So they began to swarm Mary with various questions and
prejudices. They asked about who the baby really was, why she carried him, and
also suspected that the baby was her child without going through a legal
marriage.
Surah Maryam verses 27-28:
فَأَتَتۡ
بِهِۦ قَوۡمَهَا تَحۡمِلُهُۥۖ قَالُواْ يَٰمَرۡيَمُ لَقَدۡ جِئۡتِ شَيۡٔٗا فَرِيّٗا ٢٧ يَٰٓأُخۡتَ هَٰرُونَ مَا كَانَ أَبُوكِ ٱمۡرَأَ
سَوۡءٖ وَمَا كَانَتۡ أُمُّكِ بَغِيّٗا ٢٨
27. Then she brought him to her people, carrying
him. They said, "O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented.
28. O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man
of evil, nor was your mother unchaste."
Maryam was accused of immorality. People accused her
directly without going through research or with clear evidence. Mary remained
calm and showed her kindness. She gave everything to Allah SWT. So she pointed
to the baby with her finger. People looked confused. They had understood that
Mary had vowed to fast by not talking to anyone. They think that a baby may not
be able to speak, moreover explaining about the actual event.
Surah Maryam verse 29:
فَأَشَارَتۡ
إِلَيۡهِۖ قَالُواْ كَيۡفَ نُكَلِّمُ مَن كَانَ فِي ٱلۡمَهۡدِ صَبِيّٗا ٢٩
29. So she pointed to him. They said, "How
can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?"
Miracles happen. Suddenly Jesus (Isa) answered
people's questions so they were surprised, even those words were very clear and
meaningful.
Surah Maryam verses 30-33:
قَالَ
إِنِّي عَبۡدُ ٱللَّهِ ءَاتَىٰنِيَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَجَعَلَنِي نَبِيّٗا ٣٠ وَجَعَلَنِي مُبَارَكًا أَيۡنَ مَا كُنتُ
وَأَوۡصَٰنِي بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَٱلزَّكَوٰةِ مَا دُمۡتُ حَيّٗا ٣١ وَبَرَّۢا بِوَٰلِدَتِي وَلَمۡ يَجۡعَلۡنِي
جَبَّارٗا شَقِيّٗا ٣٢ وَٱلسَّلَٰمُ
عَلَيَّ يَوۡمَ وُلِدتُّ وَيَوۡمَ أَمُوتُ وَيَوۡمَ أُبۡعَثُ حَيّٗا ٣٣
30. [Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant
of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.
31. And He has made me blessed wherever I am and
has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive
32. And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He
has not made me a wretched tyrant.
33. And peace is on me the day I was born and the
day I will die and the day I am raised alive."
They have understood that a miracle has happened.
Maryam really did not commit adultery and the baby would be a prophet who led
humans to the right path, he was the Prophet Jesus. Some people believe in this
miracle, but there are people who still deny it.
Surah Maryam verses 34-35:
ذَٰلِكَ
عِيسَى ٱبۡنُ مَرۡيَمَۖ قَوۡلَ ٱلۡحَقِّ ٱلَّذِي فِيهِ يَمۡتَرُونَ ٣٤ مَا كَانَ لِلَّهِ أَن يَتَّخِذَ مِن
وَلَدٖۖ سُبۡحَٰنَهُۥٓۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰٓ أَمۡرٗا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن
فَيَكُونُ ٣٥
34. That is Jesus, the son of Mary - the word of
truth about which they are in dispute.
35. It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a
son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it,
"Be," and it is.
