THE STORY OF THE PROPHET JOSEPH - The Famine Arrives and Joseph's Meeting with Bunyamin

After experiencing various incidents during his stay in Egypt, Joseph finally got a high position as treasurer of the state. Joseph was a person who was diligent and knowledgeable so that Allah SWT gave His gift to Joseph. In carrying out his obligations, Joseph always works well and correctly, not forgetting he always prays to Allah SWT. With his position, Jospeh could overcome the greed of officials and oppression of the small people. The contents of the state logistics warehouse can be used properly.

During the seven years of fertility, Egypt received abundant crops. Egyptians can prosper. All their needs are fulfilled. Some of the harvest is set aside to be stored in the royal warehouse. These deposits will be used to deal with the impending famine.

What Joseph said had happened. After the fertile period, the seven years of famine arrived. Long drought is really a disaster. Life becomes more difficult. Fortunately, food supplies have met the needs of the Egyptian people. Famine also occurs in the Palestinian area, where the Prophet Jacob and his family live. Many people are having trouble getting food. Palestinians have heard that a lot of food is available in Egypt. And the food can be exchanged for items owned by both Egyptians and outsiders. The sons of the Prophet Jacob went to Egypt. However, Bunyamin did not go to Egypt with his brothers.

Joseph's brothers arrived in Egypt and headed for the exchange place. Joseph was also at the exchange place at that time. Joseph's brothers did not know that the country's treasurer was Joseph, because Joseph had grown up since they were last together. Joseph actually knew that they were his brothers, but pretended not to know him.

Surah Yusuf verse 58:

58.  And the brothers of Joseph came [seeking food], and they entered upon him; and he recognized them, but he was to them unknown.

Joseph's brothers were treated well. Joseph prepared food for them as well as possible. Joseph said to his brothers that they would bring their brother who was equal (Bunyamin). If they do not bring their relatives, they cannot enter Egypt to get food. Joseph's brothers said they could carry it out. Unbeknownst to his brothers, Joseph ordered the employees to re-enter their exchange items into their sacks. This is Joseph's plan for them to return to Egypt again. Joseph's brothers received the food and returned to Palestine.

Surah Yusuf verses 59-62:

59.  And when he had furnished them with their supplies, he said, "Bring me a brother of yours from your father. Do not you see that I give full measure and that I am the best of accommodators?
60.  But if you do not bring him to me, no measure will there be [hereafter] for you from me, nor will you approach me."
61.  They said, "We will attempt to dissuade his father from [keeping] him, and indeed, we will do [it]."
62.  And [Joseph] said to his servants, "Put their merchandise into their saddlebags so they might recognize it when they have gone back to their people that perhaps they will [again] return."

After a long journey, Joseph's brothers arrived at their home. Their lives at home are easier with food supplies. They met their father, the Prophet Jacob, and conveyed the message of the treasurer of the country. They said that they had to bring Bunyamin to Egypt if they wanted to get more food. The Prophet Jacob did not agree and doubted them. The Prophet Jacob was worried that Bunyamin would have a bad luck, just as Joseph experienced. Then Joseph's brothers opened the sacks they were carrying. They were shocked. Their exchange items were returned. They immediately reported the matter to the Prophet Jacob. Joseph's brothers also reassured their father that they could get Bunyamin to go to Egypt and be able to look after him. Food ingredients from Egypt are really needed in times of famine. Finally the Prophet Jacob allowed them to bring Bunyamin. Joseph's brothers had to swear by Allah's name that they should be able to protect Bunyamin until he returned home, unless there were things that were inevitable. The sons of the Prophet Jacob were advised by their father and they will obey him.

Surah Yusuf verses 63-68:

63.  So when they returned to their father, they said, "O our father, [further] measure has been denied to us, so send with us our brother [that] we will be given measure. And indeed, we will be his guardians."
64.  He said, "Should I entrust you with him except [under coercion] as I entrusted you with his brother before? But Allah is the best guardian, and He is the most merciful of the merciful."
65.  And when they opened their baggage, they found their merchandise returned to them. They said, "O our father, what [more] could we desire? This is our merchandise returned to us. And we will obtain supplies for our family and protect our brother and obtain an increase of a camel's load; that is an easy measurement."
66.  [Jacob] said, "Never will I send him with you until you give me a promise by Allah that you will bring him [back] to me, unless you should be surrounded by enemies." And when they had given their promise, he said, "Allah, over what we say, is Witness."
67.  And he said, "O my sons, do not enter from one gate but enter from different gates; and I cannot avail you against [the decree of] Allah at all. The decision is only for Allah; upon Him I have relied, and upon Him let those who would rely [indeed] rely."
68.  And when they entered from where their father had ordered them, it did not avail them against Allah at all except [it was] a need within the soul of Jacob, which he satisfied. And indeed, he was a possessor of knowledge because of what We had taught him, but most of the people do not know.

Joseph's brothers including Bunyamin went to Egypt and arrived there after a long journey. Once they arrived at the exchange place, they were treated well by Joseph. Joseph invited Bunyamin who had come to talk somewhere. Joseph told Bunyamin that he was the treasurer of the country was Joseph, a brother who had long since left. Eventually the two brothers experienced a moving meeting. The two brothers told each other about their respective circumstances. And this meeting has not been known by their brothers.

Surah Yusuf verse 69:
69.  And when they entered upon Joseph, he took his brother to himself; he said, "Indeed, I am your brother, so do not despair over what they used to do [to me]."

KISAH NABI YUSUF AS.

THE STORY OF THE PROPHET JOSEPH - Joseph Interprets the Dream of the King and Becomes the Treasurer of the State

One day, the King of Egypt summoned the ministers, advisers, scholars and fortune tellers. After everyone gathered, the King of Egypt began the conversation. The Egyptian king told them that he had dreamed and in that dream he saw seven fat cows eaten by seven thin cows. He also saw seven green wheat stalks and seven dried wheat stalks. The dream made the Egyptian King wonder what his dream really meant. So he ordered prominent people who came to interpret the King's dream.

Surah Yusuf verse 43:

43.  And [subsequently] the king said, "Indeed, I have seen [in a dream] seven fat cows being eaten by seven [that were] lean, and seven green spikes [of grain] and others [that were] dry. O eminent ones, explain to me my vision, if you should interpret visions."

The leading people tried to think about what their King's dream meant. But they were unable to find the meaning of the dream correctly. Finally they surrendered and told the King of Egypt that they thought the dream was meaningless. The king is not satisfied with their answers and feels disappointed. Fortunately, a drinks servant who survived after being in prison with Joseph, he remembered Joseph. He remembered that Joseph had the ability to interpret someone's dreams correctly. He had forgotten Joseph for years. So the servant of the drink told the King of Egypt about Joseph and his ability to interpret dreams. He wants to meet Joseph to solve the King's problem. So the king sent the servant of the drink to meet Joseph.

Surah Yusuf verses 44-45:

44.  They said, "[It is but] a mixture of false dreams, and we are not learned in the interpretation of dreams."
45.  But the one who was freed and remembered after a time said, "I will inform you of its interpretation, so send me forth."

The drinks servant arrived at the prison and met Joseph. He asked Joseph for help to interpret the dream of the King of Egypt. After hearing and understanding what the servant said, Joseph began to interpret the dream. Joseph also gave a solution about the meaning of the King's dream. Joseph said that Egypt would experience fertility for seven years. That's when the people grow crops and harvest crops. Some of the harvest in that period must be kept well, not squandered. Then after that period seven years of famine will come. Crops that have been stored can be consumed during famine. After a difficult period will come the rainy season and the Egyptian people squeeze wine. The drink servant is relieved to know the meaning of King's dream. So he said goodbye to Joseph to return to the King.

Surah Yusuf verses 46-49:

46.  [He said], "Joseph, O man of truth, explain to us about seven fat cows eaten by seven [that were] lean, and seven green spikes [of grain] and others [that were] dry - that I may return to the people; perhaps they will know [about you]."
47.  [Joseph] said, "You will plant for seven years consecutively; and what you harvest leave in its spikes, except a little from which you will eat.
48.  Then will come after that seven difficult [years] which will consume what you saved for them, except a little from which you will store.
49.  Then will come after that a year in which the people will be given rain and in which they will press [olives and grapes]."

The drinks servant had faced the King and told him what he got from Joseph. After learning about the meaning of the dream, the King felt relieved and happy. The king requested that Joseph be able to come to meet the King. Then the servant returned to meet Joseph in prison and conveyed the King's order. However, Joseph wants his case with Zulaikha to be resolved correctly first. Then, servant of the drink told the King about the real cause of Joseph going to jail. Then Joseph's case was discussed again. The king will rectify what really happened because Joseph was actually not guilty.

Surah Yusuf verse 50:

50.  And the king said, "Bring him to me." But when the messenger came to him, [Joseph] said, "Return to your master and ask him what is the case of the women who cut their hands. Indeed, my Lord is Knowing of their plan."

The king summoned the woman guests who saw Joseph to be questioned as a witness. The women said that Joseph was a good person, never committed sin. Zulaikha also claimed that he was the one who made the mistake of teasing Joseph. After the case of Joseph and Zulaikha was investigated, it was proven that Joseph was innocent. The King freed Joseph from prison with honor and was clean of all charges.

Surah Yusuf verses 51-53:

51.  Said [the king to the women], "What was your condition when you sought to seduce Joseph?" They said, "Perfect is Allah! We know about him no evil." The wife of al-'Azeez said, "Now the truth has become evident. It was I who sought to seduce him, and indeed, he is of the truthful.
52.  That is so al-'Azeez will know that I did not betray him in [his] absence and that Allah does not guide the plan of betrayers.
53.  And I do not acquit myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoiner of evil, except those upon which my Lord has mercy. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful."

The Egyptian king then called Joseph to come to meet the King. Then the King conversed with Joseph. During the conversation, the King understood that Joseph was a polite, friendly, holy, clean, righteous person, and possessed many knowledge and abilities. Even Joseph has provided solutions to the problems that will be experienced by Egypt. The king became amazed and increasingly interested in Joseph's personality. So the King of Egypt offered Joseph a high position in the palace. Humbly, Joseph accepted the King's offer. Joseph asked to be made treasurer of the Egyptian state. Yusuf is a smart person in guarding and watching over things. Thus, the King of Egypt appointed Joseph to be the treasurer of the state. Joseph leads in the field of state logistics supplies.

Surah Yusuf verses 54-57:

54.  And the king said, "Bring him to me; I will appoint him exclusively for myself." And when he spoke to him, he said, "Indeed, you are today established [in position] and trusted."
55.  [Joseph] said, "Appoint me over the storehouses of the land. Indeed, I will be a knowing guardian."
56.  And thus We established Joseph in the land to settle therein wherever he willed. We touch with Our mercy whom We will, and We do not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good.
57.  And the reward of the Hereafter is better for those who believed and were fearing Allah.

KISAH NABI YUSUF AS.

50.  Raja berkata: "Bawalah dia kepadaku".

THE STORY OF THE PROPHET JOSEPH - Joseph Da'wah in Prison and Interpreting Dreams

In the case of Zulaikha and Joseph, actually Zulaikha made a mistake by teasing Joseph. However, because of Qitfir's power, it was precisely Joseph who had to be put in prison so that the good names of Qitfir and Zulaikha were maintained. This is good for Joseph so that he can avoid immoral things and can always remember Allah SWT.

Joseph went to prison with two other people, both servants of the king. According to a history, one of them was a servant of the drink. One more person is a servant of the food section in the form of bread and cakes. Both were accused of wanting to kill the king by putting poison in food and drink.

One day, the servant of the drink told Joseph about his dream. He dreamed that he was squeezing wine to make a drink. While the baker of the bakery also told Joseph about his dream. He dreamed that he was carrying bread on his head, then a bird came and ate some of the bread. They asked Joseph to interpret their dream, because the dream must be a sign for them. They know that Joseph is a good and highly knowledgeable person. Since the two servants of the king met Joseph in prison, they were amazed. Joseph's appearance was very neat even though it was simple. His friendly attitude makes anyone happy to meet him. Joseph is not rude and never hurts others. Besides that Joseph also often worshiped Allah SWT. Joseph was not seen as a criminal at all, even a very good person. This was also because Joseph was a descendant of the Prophets.

Surah Yusuf verse 36:

36.  And there entered the prison with him two young men. One of them said, "Indeed, I have seen myself [in a dream] pressing wine." The other said, "Indeed, I have seen myself carrying upon my head [some] bread, from which the birds were eating. Inform us of its interpretation; indeed, we see you to be of those who do good."

Joseph preached to people in prison. Joseph said that all knowledge came from Allah SWT, human beings were only entrusted with a small portion of knowledge. Joseph warned that they only worship Allah SWT and do not do shirk, also believe in the Day of Judgment. Everything that is worshiped except Allah SWT is only the result of a false thinking from humans. Allah SWT has never commanded humans to worship other than Allah SWT.

Surah Yusuf verses 37-40:

37.  He said, "You will not receive food that is provided to you except that I will inform you of its interpretation before it comes to you. That is from what my Lord has taught me. Indeed, I have left the religion of a people who do not believe in Allah, and they, in the Hereafter, are disbelievers.
38.  And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And it was not for us to associate anything with Allah. That is from the favor of Allah upon us and upon the people, but most of the people are not grateful.
39.  O [my] two companions of prison, are separate lords better or Allah, the One, the Prevailing?
40.  You worship not besides Him except [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. Legislation is not but for Allah. He has commanded that you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.

Joseph interpreted the dreams of the two servants with the permission of Allah SWT. Joseph told the servant of the drink that the servant would be released from prison. The servant was not proven that he wanted to kill the king with poison. Then the servant of the drink section will work again as a servant to the royal drink section. While Joseph also told the servant of the bread that the servant of the bread would get a punishment, because he was proven to have tried to kill the king with poison. Then he will die on the cross, and the bird will eat part of his head.

Apparently what Joseph said was really happening. The drinks servant is released from prison and can work in the palace again, how happy he is. Whereas the bread servant will be sentenced to death for being found guilty. He must bear the consequences and accept that fate.

Surah Yusuf verse 41:

41.  O two companions of prison, as for one of you, he will give drink to his master of wine; but as for the other, he will be crucified, and the birds will eat from his head. The matter has been decreed about which you both inquire."

Previously Joseph had told the drinks servant to tell him about his condition in prison. Joseph wanted the kingdom to review his decision because in fact Joseph was not guilty. Zulaikha who is actually guilty. But Satan made the drink servant forget about Joseph's message. So Joseph remained in prison for several years.

Surah Yusuf verse 42:

42.  And he said to the one whom he knew would go free, "Mention me before your master." But Satan made him forget the mention [to] his master, and Joseph remained in prison several years.
