THE STORY OF THE PROPHET LOT - Preaching the Prophet Lot to the Sadum

Prophet Lot is the nephew of Prophet Abraham. His pedigree is Lot bin Haran bin Aazar the son of Nahur, the son of Suruj, the son of Ra'u, the son of Falij, the son of ir Abir, the son of Shalih, the son of Arfahsad, the son of Sham, the son of Noah. The Prophet Lot also moved to Palestine with Prophet Abraham and his followers.

The prophet Lot was sent to preach in the land of Sadum (Sodom). The Sadum are a people who are ungodly and have bad morals.

Sadum people reject marriage between men and women. They have deviant and unusual behavior. Men choose to like fellow men, this is called homosexuality. And women also like women, this is called lesbians.

In addition they also like to rob. The people who were on their way were blocked by them and robbed of all property. If they see an attractive young man, then they rape him.

It is the duty of the Prophet Lot to warn the Sadum to return to the right path. The Prophet Lot always gave good advice, but was opposed by the disbelievers of the Sadumites. Sadum actually mocked and insulted the prophet Lot. If the Sadum were warned about the Day of Judgment and the punishment of Allah SWT, they instead challenged the Prophet Lot to bring the punishment if true.

Surah Asy-Syu'ara verses 160-169:

كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ لُوطٍ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ  ١٦٠ إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُمۡ أَخُوهُمۡ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ  ١٦١ إِنِّي لَكُمۡ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٞ  ١٦٢ فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ  ١٦٣ وَمَآ أَسۡ‍َٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ  ١٦٤ أَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلذُّكۡرَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ  ١٦٥ وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمۡ رَبُّكُم مِّنۡ أَزۡوَٰجِكُمۚ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ قَوۡمٌ عَادُونَ  ١٦٦ قَالُواْ لَئِن لَّمۡ تَنتَهِ يَٰلُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمُخۡرَجِينَ  ١٦٧ قَالَ إِنِّي لِعَمَلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَالِينَ  ١٦٨ رَبِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهۡلِي مِمَّا يَعۡمَلُونَ  ١٦٩

160.  The people of Lot denied the messengers

161.  When their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?

162.  Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.

163.  So fear Allah and obey me.

164.  And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

165.  Do you approach males among the worlds

166.  And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing."

167.  They said, "If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be of those evicted."

168.  He said, "Indeed, I am, toward your deed, of those who detest [it].

169.  My Lord, save me and my family from [the consequence of] what they do."

One day, three men were entering Sadum. The three men were handsome and manly. They were actually angels and before they had visited the house of Prophet Abraham to give news of Sarah's pregnancy and their duty to destroy Sadum's land. Prophet Abraham had requested that the Prophet Lot and his family be saved.

The three male guests visited the house of Prophet Lot. Prophet Lot felt worried that the three guests would be raped by the Sadum people. Because Sadum people really like to rape men who are handsome and strong. Then came the crowd of Sadum to the house of Prophet Lot. They swarmed around the house of Prophet Lot which had been closed tightly. They shouted and asked them to hand over the three guests to them.

The Prophet Lot said, "O my people, do not ask this guest of mine. Let my daughters I give."

Sadum replied, "Hi Lot, you know what we mean, we don't like women. We only want men."

The prophet Lot continued to warn the Sadum to abandon their despicable acts, but the Sadumites insisted that the three guests be turned over.

Then the three men told the Prophet Lot, "Hi Lot, actually we are angels sent by Allah SWT. Take it easy. They will not harm. If the end of the night has come, come out of this country with your family, remember not to see to the back."

Surat Hud verses 77-81:

وَلَمَّا جَآءَتۡ رُسُلُنَا لُوطٗا سِيٓءَ بِهِمۡ وَضَاقَ بِهِمۡ ذَرۡعٗا وَقَالَ هَٰذَا يَوۡمٌ عَصِيبٞ  ٧٧ وَجَآءَهُۥ قَوۡمُهُۥ يُهۡرَعُونَ إِلَيۡهِ وَمِن قَبۡلُ كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ ٱلسَّيِّ‍َٔاتِۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِي هُنَّ أَطۡهَرُ لَكُمۡۖ فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخۡزُونِ فِي ضَيۡفِيٓۖ أَلَيۡسَ مِنكُمۡ رَجُلٞ رَّشِيدٞ  ٧٨ قَالُواْ لَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتَ مَا لَنَا فِي بَنَاتِكَ مِنۡ حَقّٖ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَعۡلَمُ مَا نُرِيدُ  ٧٩ قَالَ لَوۡ أَنَّ لِي بِكُمۡ قُوَّةً أَوۡ ءَاوِيٓ إِلَىٰ رُكۡنٖ شَدِيدٖ  ٨٠ قَالُواْ يَٰلُوطُ إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَن يَصِلُوٓاْ إِلَيۡكَۖ فَأَسۡرِ بِأَهۡلِكَ بِقِطۡعٖ مِّنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَلَا يَلۡتَفِتۡ مِنكُمۡ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا ٱمۡرَأَتَكَۖ إِنَّهُۥ مُصِيبُهَا مَآ أَصَابَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ مَوۡعِدَهُمُ ٱلصُّبۡحُۚ أَلَيۡسَ ٱلصُّبۡحُ بِقَرِيبٖ  ٨١

77.  And when Our messengers, [the angels], came to Lot, he was anguished for them and felt for them great discomfort and said, "This is a trying day."

78.  And his people came hastening to him, and before [this] they had been doing evil deeds. He said, "O my people, these are my daughters; they are purer for you. So fear Allah and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a man of reason?"

79.  They said, "You have already known that we have not concerning your daughters any claim, and indeed, you know what we want."

80.  He said, "If only I had against you some power or could take refuge in a strong support."

81.  The angels said, "O Lot, indeed we are messengers of your Lord; [therefore], they will never reach you. So set out with your family during a portion of the night and let not any among you look back - except your wife; indeed, she will be struck by that which strikes them. Indeed, their appointment is [for] the morning. Is not the morning near?"

So the Prophet Lot, his wife, and his two daughters came out through the back door. Early morning. Sadum's people in front of the house of Prophet Lot were impatient. They broke the door of the house of Prophet Lot. They were happy when they saw the three male guests still inside. But their intentions were not fulfilled. Suddenly their eyes couldn't see anymore.

In the morning, the punishment of Allah SWT came. Sadum's country was hit by a storm and was bombarded with huge boulders that burned a lot. None of those despicable people lived. The Prophet Lot, his family, and faithful followers heard the roar of the destruction of Sadum. They keep going without looking back. It turned out that Prophet Lot's wife looked back. The wife of the prophet Lot is equally ungodly with the ungodly people of Sadum. Then the wife of the prophet Lot changed to stone and perished with the ungodly people of Sadum. Thus this story can be a lesson.

Surah Hud verses 82-83:

فَلَمَّا جَآءَ أَمۡرُنَا جَعَلۡنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَيۡهَا حِجَارَةٗ مِّن سِجِّيلٖ مَّنضُودٖ  ٨٢ مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَۖ وَمَا هِيَ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ بِبَعِيدٖ  ٨٣

82.  So when Our command came, We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of layered hard clay, [which were]

83.  Marked from your Lord. And Allah 's punishment is not from the wrongdoers [very] far.

Surah Al-Anbiya’ verses 74-75:

وَلُوطًا ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ حُكۡمٗا وَعِلۡمٗا وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡقَرۡيَةِ ٱلَّتِي كَانَت تَّعۡمَلُ ٱلۡخَبَٰٓئِثَۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمَ سَوۡءٖ فَٰسِقِينَ  ٧٤ وَأَدۡخَلۡنَٰهُ فِي رَحۡمَتِنَآۖ إِنَّهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ  ٧٥

74.  And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient.

75.  And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous.

Surah At-Tahrim verse 10:

ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلٗا لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ ٱمۡرَأَتَ نُوحٖ وَٱمۡرَأَتَ لُوطٖۖ كَانَتَا تَحۡتَ عَبۡدَيۡنِ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا صَٰلِحَيۡنِ فَخَانَتَاهُمَا فَلَمۡ يُغۡنِيَا عَنۡهُمَا مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيۡ‍ٔٗا وَقِيلَ ٱدۡخُلَا ٱلنَّارَ مَعَ ٱلدَّٰخِلِينَ  ١٠

10.  Allah presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them, so those prophets did not avail them from Allah at all, and it was said, "Enter the Fire with those who enter."
