Ibrahim
who is still a baby grows and develops rapidly. After Ibrahim was big enough
and the order to kill a baby boy was gone, his parents had dared to bring
Ibrahim home.
During
the time of Prophet Ibrahim, most of the ancient Mesopotamian people worshiped
polytheism or worshiped more than one God. The moon god or Sin is one of the
most important idols. The object of their main worship is the star, the moon
and the sun. Therefore, the field of astronomy is important in their lives. The
father of Prophet Ibrahim named Aazar was a maker of idols in the form of this
symbol to be worshiped. The idols were sold to the surrounding community.
When
his father Ibrahim was making statues, Ibrahim saw the statues were made of
stone or wood which was an inanimate object. Ibrahim asked his father why the
statues could not move or respond to various questions. According to Ibrahim,
is it appropriate that the statues be made as God? The statues cannot help
humans and also cannot hurt humans. The response of Ibrahim's father did not
make Ibrahim's feelings satisfied. Ibrahim was surprised to see the surrounding
people worshiping idols. They always give food to the statues and they cry and
pray to the statues. Ibrahim thought that the surrounding community was in a
real error. Then Abraham sought the truth about the true God.
Surah
Al-An'am verse 74:
74. And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham said
to his father Azar, "Do you take idols as deities? Indeed, I see you and
your people to be in manifest error."
Ibrahim
also saw the natural conditions around him. There are various plants, animals,
soil, sky, and so on. When night fell, Abraham saw a shining star, but then the
star sank. Then Abraham saw the rising moon glow, and the moon was immersed
again. Then Ibrahim saw the rising sun shine, and finally the sun set again.
Surah
Al-An'am verses 75-78:
75. And thus did We show Abraham the realm of the
heavens and the earth that he would be among the certain [in faith]
76. So when the night covered him [with
darkness], he saw a star. He said, "This is my lord." But when it
set, he said, "I like not those that disappear."
77. And when he saw the moon rising, he said,
"This is my lord." But when it set, he said, "Unless my Lord
guides me, I will surely be among the people gone astray."
78. And when he saw the sun rising, he said,
"This is my lord; this is greater." But when it set, he said, "O
my people, indeed I am free from what you associate with Allah.
Finally
Ibrahim came to a conclusion. The Ibrahim's pure mind and heart decided that
God was the One who created the universe. This is the power of thought bestowed
upon him in rejecting worship of idols and being able to know the true God.
Surah
al-An'am verse 79:
79. Indeed, I have turned my face toward He who
created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of
those who associate others with Allah."
