The
disbelievers of Quraysh were increasingly confused and upset after Hamzah and
Umar bin Khattab radhiallahuanhuma entered Islam and the number of Muslims
increased. They are increasingly difficult to find ways to stop Prophet
Muhammad's mission.
By
entering Islam the two important figures and other people, the strength of the
Muslims increasingly grew so that the infidels Quraish felt like chest
tightness. In addition, with various abusive treatments and disturbances
received by the Muslims, it was found that they were unable to reduce their
faith and stated frankly that various disturbances could not prevent them from
carrying out religious obligations. Quraysh thought of freeing themselves from
Prophet Muhammad, in a way that gave everything Prophet desired. They are not
aware that the glory of the teachings of Islam, the purity of the essence of
spiritual teachings that are very noble, are far above various personal
interests or ambitions.
One
of their efforts was to send Utbah bin Rabi'ah to face Prophet Muhammad by
offering several offers which they considered could hinder the mission of
Rasulullah. Utbah bin Rabi'ah is a famous Arab aristocrat. He who initially
tried to persuade Quraysh at the meeting place said that he was the one who
would talk to Prophet Muhammad and would offer with things that Rasulullah
might want to accept. The Quraysh wanted to give anything as long as it could
obstruct the mission of Rasulullah.
Utbah
who was also called by the name Abu Walid conveyed the offer to Rasulullah,
"O Muhammad, as is known that in terms of descendants, you have a place
among us. You have brought a big problem to our society, so they disputed and
separated because of that. Now listen, we will offer a few things, if you can
accept some. If in this case what you want is wealth, we are ready to collect
our wealth and give it to you so that you are the richest among us. If you want
rank, we will lift you above us. We will not decide a matter without going
through your agreement. If you want the king's position, we honor you as our
king".
That
was more or less an offer from the representative of the infidels Quraish. They
intend to give it all on the condition that he stop his da'wah.
After
hearing the offer from Abul Walid to completion, Rasulullah SAW read Surah
Fushshilat verse 1-5:
1. Ha, Meem.
2. [This is] a revelation from the Entirely
Merciful, the Especially Merciful -
3. A Book whose verses have been detailed, an
Arabic Qur'an for a people who know,
4. As a giver of good tidings and a warner; but
most of them turn away, so they do not hear.
5. And they say, "Our hearts are within
coverings from that to which you invite us, and in our ears is deafness, and
between us and you is a partition, so work; indeed, we are working."
Utbah
fell silent after hearing such beautiful words. At that time he saw that the
man in front of him was not someone who had the ambition to gather wealth, look
for a position or kingdom. Prophet Muhammad is someone who truly wants to show
the truth and invites people to do good. Rasulullah maintained the truth in a
good and right way, according to the guidance of Allah SWT.
Then
Abul Walid failed in offering. So he returned to his people without success, he
even felt amazed at the verses that were read by Prophet Muhammad. It still
remained in his mind and he felt fascinated by the personality of Rasulullah.
His explanation is indeed very interesting. What happened to Utbah made Quraish
unhappy. The Quraysh also accused Rasulullah of bewitching Utbah.
