The
Quraysh people found it increasingly difficult to find ways to prevent the
development of Islam after failing to persuade Abu Talib to stop the preaching
of Rasulullah. Open da'wah of Rasulullah increasingly attracted people to
convert to Islam. They were also increasingly confused when a few months later
the Hajj season arrived, when Arabs from various places visited Mecca. They
argue that Prophet Muhammad must be given a negative image so that the pilgrims
would not pay attention to his preaching.
So
they discussed at Walid bin Mughirah's house to discuss what was done to be
able to influence the pilgrims. Walid said, "You must unite and do not
have any of you who argue or lie between one another. Let's express your
opinion".
Initially
they proposed that the Prophet Muhammad be called a shaman, but Walid rejected
the proposal because according to him Prophet Muhammad did not have the
characteristics of a shaman. What the Messenger said was also not the words of
a shaman. Then they proposed that the Messenger of Allah be called insane and
Walid did not approve it, indeed the words of Rasulullah were not
insignificant. Then they proposed the name of the poet, but Walid still refused
because the words of Rasulullah did not fit all the types of poems they knew.
And there are also those who give the designation of witches and Walids also
reject it because the words of Rasulullah are not spells or incantations of all
types of magic.
After
a long discussion, they finally agreed to call the Prophet Muhammad a sorcerer.
At least according to them, the words of Rasulullah were considered to have
hypnotized people and caused children to separate from their parents, separated
from their siblings and family, and the husband separated from his wife.
So
they were determined to make the decision. When the Hajj season arrives, the
Arab polytheists are already on every road that becomes the entrance to Mecca
and tells everyone who comes to not notice the preaching of Rasulullah. All
guests received warnings from the polytheists.
According
to a history, Abu Lahab carried out this evil deed. When the Messenger of Allāh
followed the pilgrims to their place or in the markets so that they would be
pleased to follow his teachings, Abu Lahab also followed him from behind and
told the pilgrims, "Do not trust him because he has gone out of religion
and is lying."
The
polytheists hoped that when the guests returned from the pilgrimage, they
spread false stories about the Messenger of Allah to all Arab lands.
In
addition to this method, there are still other ways by which the Quraysh
polytheists do to stop Rasulullah's preaching, namely:
1. Mockery and insults
and various kinds of accusations
They
hope that the Muslims will lose their enthusiasm and strength. They gave bad
accusations to the Messenger. This is told in the Qur'an Al-Hijr verse 6:
And they say, "O
you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. [Al Hijr:6]
They
accused the Prophet of being a sorcerer and liar.
[ ص:4-4]
[ ص:4-4]
And they wonder that
there has come to them a warner from among themselves. And the disbelievers
say, "This is a magician and a liar. [Sad:4]
They
watched and looked at Rasulullah with hatred.
And indeed, those who
disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the
message, and they say, "Indeed, he is mad." [Al Qalam:51]
When
Prophet Muhammad was sitting among his poor friends, the polytheists mocked
him.
And thus We have
tried some of them through others that the disbelievers might say, "Is it
these whom Allah has favored among us?" Is not Allah most knowing of those
who are grateful? [Al An'am:53]
They
often laugh at the Muslims, blink each other with ridicule if the Muslims walk
in front of them, and accuse them of being heretics.
29. Indeed, those who
committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.
30. And when they passed by them, they would
exchange derisive glances.
31. And when they returned to their people, they
would return jesting.
32. And when they saw them, they would say,
"Indeed, those are truly lost."
33. But they had not been sent as guardians over
them.
2. Spread negative
issues about the teachings brought by Prophet Muhammad
They
made false news (hoax) about the Islamic religion and Prophet Muhammad. They
disseminate slander so that there is no opportunity for others to accept the
preaching of Rasulullah. They say that the Qur'an is a lie and fairy tale of
the people first.
And they say,
"Legends of the former peoples which he has written down, and they are
dictated to him morning and afternoon." [Al Furqan:5]
3. Offer
They
made an offer to the Messenger of Allah to worship alternately, namely in one
year Prophet Muhammad worshiped their god. The following year they will also
worship their Lord. A very strange offer was immediately rejected by Allah SWT
through Surah Al-Kafirun.
1. Say, "O
disbelievers,
2. I do not worship what you worship.
3. Nor are you worshippers of what I worship.
4. Nor will I be a worshipper of what you
worship.
5. Nor will you be worshippers of what I
worship.
6. For you is your religion, and for me is my
religion." [Al Kafirun:1-6]
