The
call of Prophet Muhammad as a reminder to his people was the subject of
discussion. So Allah SWT revealed revelation about the affirmation of the
Messenger's preaching openly to the entire community.
Surah
Al Hijr verse 94:
فَٱصۡدَعۡ
بِمَا تُؤۡمَرُ وَأَعۡرِضۡ عَنِ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ
٩٤
94. Then declare what you are commanded and turn
away from the polytheists.
Rasulullah
immediately earnestly conveyed the message of Allah SWT to all layers of the
people of Mecca at that time. He explained the ugliness of doing shirk
(associating something with Allah SWT), the nature of idols which clearly could
not do anything and were not worthy of worship. Paganism is something that is
not in accordance with God's law. Whoever worships idols as an intermediary
between man and his God means that he has committed a real deviation.
The
Arab pagan community became angry after hearing the statement of Rasulullah.
They clearly reject the call for Tawheed (monotheism) taught by Prophet
Muhammad and his statements which are very contrary to their habits that have
been taught by their ancestors. They felt that something that had become their
perverted habit had been attacked by something they had not known before. From
their attitude they showed that they did realize that the purpose of the
Messenger's mission was to abolish paganism in their environment.
Prophet
Muhammad condemned their idols, which they had never heard before about these
reproaches. Indeed what the Rasulullah said was a truth that could not be
accepted by their hearts that were harder than stone. Even though their daily
lives are often filled with boasting, mocking, or making fun of. However, when
those who are insulted or ridiculed are the idols they worship, this is
considered a serious and dangerous problem for them.
The
idols are nothing more than supported stones or wood or idols that stand tall
in the middle of the desert, which cannot bring goodness or reject disaster.
But they still worshiped them without having evidence of his divine attributes.
The stone or wood they worship cannot move and cannot defend themselves if
someone destroys it.
The
faith in the Messenger and the End of the Day meant their submission absolutely
to the teachings that Rasulullah brought, there was no other choice for them.
So the power and pride which they have lost. They also have no chance to freely
commit immorality and injustice. What they did at that time was only ugliness
and immorality. Those who are rich and high-ranking people like to spree, show
off their possessions and lineages, and treat others as they wish for their own
enjoyment. Whereas low-ranking people (such as slaves) are often treated
inhumanely. They only continue to suffer and be blackmailed by those in power.
Prophet
Muhammad was sent by Allah SWT to explain that the position of human before
Allah SWT is the same, the only difference is faith and piety. So someone's
degree cannot only be seen from power, wealth, or offspring. Every human being
God has created with their strengths and weaknesses.
Unbelievers
of Quraysh always belied the teachings of Rasulullah. In a history, they persuaded
poets to mock Rasulullah. So the Muslim poets also returned their attacks
without Rasulullah himself having to face.
Although
the anger of the Quraysh towards the preaching of Rasulullah could not be
detained anymore, they remained confused looking for ways to stop his da'wah.
Prophet Muhammad was someone who was known for his noble character they had
never known someone like Prophet Muhammad throughout the history of their
ancestors. Because there was no other way, they finally tried to persuade the
Messenger's uncle, Abu Talib, to stop the preaching of Rasulullah. This is
because Prophet Muhammad included a noble position and the person who deserved
to persuade him was only a member of his family. But Abu Talib refused their
request and Rasulullah was able to continue his da'wah persistently so that the
followers of Islam increasingly multiplied.
According
to the history of Ibn Ishaq, prominent figures of Quraysh met Abu Talib and
said, "O Abu Talib, in fact your nephew has denounced our gods, demeaned
our religion, demeaned our thoughts and stated that our ancestors were in
deviation. Here we demand that you stop the preaching or give us a chance to
prevent it. You are also the same as us, disagreeing with his words, let's stop
him together ". Because Abu Talib was determined to protect Prophet
Muhammad no matter what happened, he answered with subtle words, so that the
leaders of Quraysh returned without bringing results.
