The
Messenger of Allah has secretly preached for three years to teach Islam, then
Allah SWT gave revelations to Prophet Muhammad, which contained the command to
preach to his family or closest relatives, this command is contained in the
Surah Ash-Shu'ara verse 214 :
وَأَنذِرۡ
عَشِيرَتَكَ ٱلۡأَقۡرَبِينَ ٢١٤
214. And warn, [O
Muhammad], your closest kindred.
Based
on the instructions in the verse, the initial action taken by Prophet Muhammad
was to gather his relatives from the Banu Hashim. About forty-five Banu Hashim
gathered together to fulfill the invitation of Prophet Muhammad. Rasulullah
conveyed his preaching:
"All
praise belongs only to Allah, I praise Him, Request His help, believe and put
His trust in Him. There is no God worshiped except Allah, there is no partner
for Him. Verily I am a messenger of God sent to you specifically, and to all
humanity in general. For God's sake, you will die as you sleep, and you will be
resurrected as you wake up from sleep, and your actions will be taken into
account. There is eternal heaven (with pleasure), or eternal hell (with
torment).
Abu
Talib responded to the words of Rasulullah:
“There
is no one that God likes us besides helping you, accepting your advice,
trusting your words, those who gather here are your family, I am only one of
them but I immediately accept what you want. Continue what God commands you.
For God's sake, I will always protect you and prevent those who want to harm
you. But my soul was still unable to abandon Abdul Muttalib's religion".
So
Abu Lahab said:
"Really,
this is a disgrace. Prevent him before he can influence others ".
Abu
Talib said:"For God's sake, I will always protect him".
Hearing
Abu Talib's words, Prophet Muhammad knew that Abu Talib defended him in
delivering the message of God, even though he did not wish to convert to Islam.
After
being guaranteed protection, one day Prophet Muhammad stood on the hill of Safa
and exclaimed:"O Banu Fihr, O Banu Adi '!".So they gathered before
Prophet Muhammad. Even someone who is unable to attend sends a representative
to find out what happened. Abu Lahab and the Quraysh were also there. So
Rasulullah said: "What if I told you, that behind this hill is an enemy
that is a cavalry ready to attack you, will you trust me?"
The
people who gathered answered: "Yes, of course we believe, because all this
time we know you as the most honest person among us."
The
Messenger of Allah said: "Surely I will warn you before a very painful
punishment comes."
So
Abu Lahab said: "Woe to you forever, is it only for this that you gather
us?"
The
reply to the actions of Abu Lahab is described in Surah Al-Lahab verse 1-3:
تَبَّتۡ
يَدَآ أَبِي لَهَبٖ وَتَبَّ ١ مَآ
أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ ٢
سَيَصۡلَىٰ نَارٗا ذَاتَ لَهَبٖ ٣
1. May the hands of Abu
Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.
2. His wealth will not avail him or that which
he gained.
3. He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of
[blazing] flame
Abu
Lahab's anger and other Quraysh hostility could not prevent the spread of Islam
to the people of Mecca. Day by day, the number of people who converted to Islam
grew to surrender to Allah. They began to try not to be fascinated by worldly
pleasures and reflect on the truth of the true purpose of life. Prophet
Muhammad invited people to live in compassion and tolerance. Collecting as much
property as possible is a life-threatening thing.
Prophet
Muhammad tried to free humans so that they would not be deluded by property and
other heathenism. Every human being should only serve Allah SWT who has
provided various sustenance to His creatures. There is no Hubal, there is no
Latta, Uzza, Majusi Fire, Sun God, Star
God, or any other that is a barrier between man and the Creator. God is the
Almighty God and nothing is equal to Him. Every human being will be held
accountable before God about their actions while living in the world, good and
bad. Every soul will get a reply according to his actions. That is what the
Rasulullah taught, the true teaching of truth. Whereas Abu Lahab and his friends
did not like it. They prevent humans from obtaining the truth.
Abu
Lahab and his friends from the prominent people of the Quraysh tribe were
wealthy persons who only liked to have fun. When Prophet Muhammad taught the
truth, they began to feel that their position was threatened. So they always
tried to attack and deter Prophet Muhammad.
