Job
was a Prophet who was assigned to preach to the Bani Israel and and the
Amorites (Aramin) in Haran, Sham. Job was the son of Ish bin Isaac ibn Abraham.
Job was a rich prophet. Job had many wives, many children, and abundant wealth.
He lives a prosperous life. The Prophet Job always diligently worshiped Allah
SWT. Job likes to do good and help those who are in trouble. Job was the most
patient prophet when facing trials from Allah SWT, even reaching the peak of
patience.
The
angels were amazed and praised the obedience of the Prophet Job and his
sincerity in worshiping Allah SWT. Satan feels jealous of the Prophet Job. He
wanted to plunge the Prophet Job into a disbeliever. Then Satan tried to
persuade the Prophet Job to get lost and not to worship Allah SWT. However, the
devil's efforts were in vain. Prophet Job has a very strong faith.
Devils
try harder than before. At first the Devil and his helpers destroyed all of the
cattle of the Prophet Job. Animals die, barns and agricultural land are
damaged. Prophet Job did not complain. Prophet Job was sincere if Allah's
safekeeping had been taken.
Then
Satan and his helpers went to the place of the children of the Prophet Job in
their house. Their house was torn down by Satan so that all the children of the
Prophet Job died. Prophet Job continued to surrender to God. Prophet Job loved
his children very much. Prophet Job felt sad but his heart and soul remained
firm. Prophet Job was convinced that Allah SWT the Most Giver had wanted all
this, then anyone could not obstruct Him.
Then
Satan made Prophet Job affected by a disgusting skin disease. Many people stay
away from it. Many of his wives stay away from him. Only one person is still
loyal. According to history, she was named Rahmah. Life suffering is a hard
thing for the Prophet Job and Rahmah. But one day, Rahmah's behavior made the
Prophet Job offended. Ayyub swore that if he had healed he would beat his wife
(supposedly a hundred times).
Prophet
Job almost reached the peak of his patience in facing this suffering. So the
Prophet Job prayed to Allah SWT that he had been disturbed by the devil with
distress, and he expected the help of Allah the Most Gracious. Allah SWT
granted the prayer of the Prophet Job. Allah SWT ordered the Prophet Job to
strike his feet on the ground. From the traces of the stamped water came out
that could cure the Prophet Job. The water can be used by drinking and bathing.
The Prophet Job drank and bathed with the water given by Allah SWT. After that,
the Prophet Job recovered and was healthy as before.
Surah
Al-Anbiya' verse 83:
83. And [mention] Job, when he called to his
Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of
the merciful."
Surah
Shaad verses 41-42:
41. And remember Our servant Job, when he called
to his Lord, "Indeed, Satan has touched me with hardship and
torment."
42. [So he was told], "Strike [the ground]
with your foot; this is a [spring for] a cool bath and drink."
Rahmah
is looking for the existence of the Prophet Job. She asked someone who was
actually the Prophet Job. Rahmah did not recognize the Prophet Job because the
appearance of the Prophet Job was far better than before. After the Prophet Job
narrated himself, then Rahmah recognized the Prophet Job again. Prophet Job was
grateful and happy with the situation now, but he remembered that he vowed to
beat his wife if he had recovered. This made the Prophet Job doubtful, because
Rahmah had long suffered along with him. So Allah SWT gave a revelation to the
Prophet Job to take a bundle of grass and hit his wife with it, and the blow
was done very slowly. Thus, the oath of the Prophet Job was carried out.
Because
of his patience and determination, Prophet Job was again blessed with many
riches and descendants. The patience of the Prophet Job is a role model for
people who are patient, entertainer for people who are experiencing distress,
and lessons for people who want to think.
Surah
Al-Anbiya' verse 84:
84. So We responded to him and removed what
afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like
thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of
Allah].
Surah
Shaad verses 43-44:
43. And We granted him his family and a like
[number] with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for those of understanding.
44. [We said], "And take in your hand a
bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath." Indeed,
We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly
turning back [to Allah].
