Moses
was sent to preach in Egypt and invited the Bani Israel to worship Allah SWT.
At that time, Egypt was ruled by Pharaoh. The kingdom is rich and has high
resources. Egypt's population consists of two nations. The first is the native
Egyptians, namely the Qubti people and the second is the descendants of the
Prophet Jacob, Bani Israel. High-class
positions and jobs in Egypt were occupied by Qubti people. On the contrary, the
Bani Israel only have a low position, such as laborers and servants.
Pharaoh
was a dictator who was cruel and had no sense of humanity. Pharaoh led the land
of Egypt arbitrarily. He was drunk and greedy for power, even he called himself
god.
One
day Pharaoh had a bad dream. Then the fortune-teller told Pharaoh that soon a
boy from the Israelites would be born who would later become the great enemy of
Pharaoh and take power. The boy will save the Bani Israel from the cruelty of
Pharaoh. Pharaoh was worried and angry at the report. To prevent this from
happening, Pharaoh gave the order to kill every baby boy born to the Bani
Israel.
Surah
Al-Qasas verses 3-6:
3. We recite to you from the news of Moses and
Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe.
4. Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land
and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering
their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the
corrupters.
5. And We wanted to confer favor upon those who
were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors
6. And establish them in the land and show
Pharaoh and [his minister] Haman and their soldiers through them that which
they had feared.
A
pair of husband and wife named Imran and Yukabad were waiting for the birth of
a child, they were biological parents of Prophet Moses who came from the tribe
of Lawy, one of the twelve tribes of the Bani Israel. They were anxious because
of the orders of the Pharaoh. Upon learning that babies born are boys, Imran
and Yukabad panic. If the birth is known to the subordinates of Pharaoh, of
course their babies will become victims.
Yukabad
is very fond of her baby who was born healthy and funny. Yukabad wants to
protect his child from the threat of Pharaoh and think of ways to save his son.
Allah SWT gave revelation so that Moses would be put in a waterproof box and
then wash it on the Nile. Yukabad feels upset about the condition of her baby.
Moses' sister was ordered to follow in which direction the box was washed away
and who could find it. It turned out that members of the Pharaoh's family found
the box
.
The
baby Moses was removed from the box and Moses was brought before the Pharaoh's
wife, Asiah. Pharaoh's wife was very happy to see the baby. Asiah wants the
baby to be her adopted child. Initially Pharaoh did not agree with the wishes
of his wife. Pharaoh intended to kill Moses because Moses was a boy. But the
Asiah forbade the Pharaoh's intentions. He continued to persuade and emphasized
that he really wanted to take care of the baby because of his love. Then
Pharaoh agreed with that. Asiah was happy, she wanted to find a woman who could
breastfeed Moses. There were some women who were chosen to be able to
breastfeed Moses, but there was no match. Moses did not want to suckle.
Then
Moses' sister offered her mother to be able to breastfeed Moses. He pretended
not to know Moses. So Moses returned to his biological mother and of course
Moses wanted to feed his own mother. Moses was handed over to Yukabad to take
care of him until his breastfeeding period was finished. Yukabad was relieved
and grateful for being able to meet again with her child. This is the way God
returned Moses to his biological mother. After finishing the breastfeeding
period, Moses was taken by the family of Pharaoh. Moses lived in the palace and
was educated like a king's son.
Surah
Al-Qasas verses 7-13:
7. And We inspired to the mother of Moses,
"Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not
fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him
[one] of the messengers."
8. And the family of Pharaoh picked him up [out
of the river] so that he would become to them an enemy and a [cause of] grief.
Indeed, Pharaoh and Haman and their soldiers were deliberate sinners.
9. And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will
be] a comfort of the eye for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may
benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not.
10. And the heart of Moses' mother became empty
[of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not
bound fast her heart that she would be of the believers.
11. And she said to his sister, "Follow
him"; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not.
12. And We had prevented from him [all] wet
nurses before, so she said, "Shall I direct you to a household that will
be responsible for him for you while they are to him [for his upbringing]
sincere?"
13. So We restored him to his mother that she
might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of
Allah is true. But most of the people do not know.
When
Moses became a adult man, then Allah SWT gave him prophethood and knowledge.
Surah
Taha verses 37-41:
37. And We had already conferred favor upon you
another time,
38. When We inspired to your mother what We
inspired,
39. [Saying], 'Cast him into the chest and cast
it into the river, and the river will throw it onto the bank; there will take
him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him.' And I bestowed upon you love from Me
that you would be brought up under My eye.
40. [And We favored you] when your sister went
and said, 'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?' So
We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And
you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe]
trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came
[here] at the decreed time, O Moses.
41. And I produced you for Myself.
Surah
Al-Qasas verse 14:
14. And when he attained his full strength and
was [mentally] mature, We bestowed upon him judgement and knowledge. And thus
do We reward the doers of good.
