One day Moses was walking around the city in Egypt.
As a royal prince, Moses was free to visit various places in Egypt. Moses saw
various sights around him. Then Moses' attention was drawn to a commotion
between two men. It turned out that there was a fight between the Qubtis and
the Israelite. The situation seemed unbalanced, the Israelite looked cornered.
The Bani Israil were always oppressed by the Qubti. The Qubti consider that the
Bani Israil are only low-ranking people who can be treated as they please.
Then, the Israelite asked Moses for help. Moses immediately approached the
place of the fight. Moses defended the Israelite. The Qubtis don't want to be
invited to peace. Moses immediately hit the Qubtis so hard that the Qubtis died
immediately in one hit.
Surah Al-Qashash verse 15:
15. And he entered the city at a time of
inattention by its people and found therein two men fighting: one from his
faction and one from among his enemy. And the one from his faction called for
help to him against the one from his enemy, so Moses struck him and
[unintentionally] killed him. [Moses] said, "This is from the work of
Satan. Indeed, he is a manifest, misleading enemy."
Moses regretted his actions. Moses felt that he had
committed a crime. In fact, Moses only intends to defend his people who are
being oppressed. So Moses prayed to God that his mistakes would be forgiven.
Moses was also determined not to help those who sinned. So, Allah forgave
Moses.
Surah Al-Qashash verses 16-17:
16. He said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged
myself, so forgive me," and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving,
the Merciful.
17. He said, "My Lord, for the favor You
bestowed upon me, I will never be an assistant to the criminals."
There were witnesses who saw Moses' actions. Then,
news of the incident arrived at the kingdom of Egypt. Pharaoh and the royal
officials knew that Moses defended the Israelite. So they made a decision to
arrest and punish Moses.
Moses is still in the city. Then the person who was
rescued yesterday asked Moses for help again. That person was hostile again
with the Qubtis. Moses warned and denounced the man for being involved in
hostility. Then Moses wanted to hit the Qubtis who were their enemies. The
Qubti tried to dodge and said to Moses, would Moses kill him like yesterday.
Moses was considered a troublemaker in Egypt.
Surah Al-Qashash verses 18-19:
18. And he became inside the city fearful and
anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous
day cried out to him [once again]. Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are an
evident, [persistent] deviator."
19. And when he wanted to strike the one who was
an enemy to both of them, he said, "O Moses, do you intend to kill me as
you killed someone yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land and do
not want to be of the amenders."
Suddenly someone came to call Moses. It turned out
that the person was on Moses' side. The man told Moses that Moses would be
arrested and be punished by the kingdom. The person told Moses to get out of
town immediately to save himself. So Moses rushed out of the city while being
alert if anyone would arrest him or prevent him. Moses continued to travel
towards the land of Madyan. Moses prayed to Allah SWT that he be given
salvation and be led to the right path.
Surah Al-Qashash verses 20-22:
20. And a man came from the farthest end of the
city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring
over you [intending] to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of
the sincere advisors."
21. So he left it, fearful and anticipating
[apprehension]. He said, "My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing
people."
22. And when he directed himself toward Madyan,
he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way."
