According
to history, after living married in the land of Madyan, Moses wanted to return
to Egypt. Moses had longed for his family in Egypt and wanted to know the
situation in Egypt. Before leaving, Moses said goodbye to his father-in-law and
prepared various provisions for the trip, such as goats. Moses also carries a staff
that can be used for various needs. Then, Moses and his family left for a trip.
Moses'
journey with his family arrived at a cold and dark night. They do not know the
direction of the road and feel cold. That said, Moses tried to light a fire on
the wood, but the fire would not turn on because it was so cold that night.
Suddenly, Moses saw a bright fire on a mountainside. Moses told his family that
he saw the fire and told them to wait for him. Moses will go to the fire to
find news or take the fire to warm the body.
Surah
Thaha verse 10:
10. When he saw a fire and said to his family,
"Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire; perhaps I can bring you a
torch or find at the fire some guidance."
Surah
An-Naml verse 7:
7. [Mention] when Moses said to his family,
"Indeed, I have perceived a fire. I will bring you from there information
or will bring you a burning torch that you may warm yourselves."
Surah
Al-Qashash verse 29:
29. And when Moses had completed the term and was
traveling with his family, he perceived from the direction of the mount a fire.
He said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire.
Perhaps I will bring you from there [some] information or burning wood from the
fire that you may warm yourselves."
When
Moses was around the fire, then a voice called out to him. That is the voice of
Allah SWT. Moses also listened carefully.
Surah
Thaha verses 11-16:
11. And when he came to it, he was called,
"O Moses,
12. Indeed, I am your Lord, so remove your
sandals. Indeed, you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa.
13. And I have chosen you, so listen to what is
revealed [to you].
14. Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except
Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.
15. Indeed, the Hour is coming - I almost conceal
it - so that every soul may be recompensed according to that for which it
strives.
16. So do not let one avert you from it who does
not believe in it and follows his desire, for you [then] would perish.
Surah
An-Naml verses 8-9:
8. But when he came to it, he was called,
"Blessed is whoever is at the fire and whoever is around it. And exalted
is Allah, Lord of the worlds.
9. O Moses, indeed it is I - Allah, the Exalted
in Might, the Wise."
Surah
Al-Qashash verse 30:
30. But when he came to it, he was called from
the right side of the valley in a blessed spot - from the tree, "O Moses,
indeed I am Allah, Lord of the worlds."
This
is the first revelation received directly by the Prophet Moses, even the
Prophet Moses was allowed to hear the voice of Allah SWT. Prophet Moses was
appointed a Prophet and Apostle. Explained in this verse that Moses was in a
blessed place in the form of a sacred valley, namely Thuwa. This is truly a
special thing experienced by the Prophet Moses. Then, Allah SWT gave a miracle
to the Prophet Moses which would be proof and help in preaching.
Allah
SWT ordered the Prophet Moses to throw the staff he was holding. Moses threw
his staff and the staff suddenly turned into a large snake and his movements
were agile and fast. Prophet Moses was surprised and ran away from the snake.
Allah SWT told the Prophet Moses not to be afraid and hold the snake. When
held, the snake turned into a staff as before.
Surah
Thaha verses 17-21:
17. And what is that in your right hand, O
Moses?"
18. He said, "It is my staff; I lean upon
it, and I bring down leaves for my sheep and I have therein other uses."
19. [Allah] said, "Throw it down, O
Moses."
20. So he threw it down, and thereupon it was a
snake, moving swiftly.
21. [Allah] said, "Seize it and fear not; We
will return it to its former condition.
Surah
An-Naml verses 10-11:
10. And [he was told], "Throw down your
staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it were a snake, he turned in
flight and did not return. [Allah said], "O Moses, fear not. Indeed, in My
presence the messengers do not fear.
11. Otherwise, he who wrongs, then substitutes
good after evil - indeed, I am Forgiving and Merciful.
Surah
Al-Qashash verse 31:
31. And [he was told], "Throw down your
staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it was a snake, he turned in
flight and did not return. [Allah said], "O Moses, approach and fear not.
Indeed, you are of the secure.
Then,
Allah SWT ordered the Prophet Moses to put his hand on the neck of the shirt.
When his hand was released, the hand of the Prophet Moses turned bright white.
That is not because of disease (hairpiece). And when frightened, Moses can
overcome it by holding his hands to his chest.
Surah
Thaha verses 22-23:
22. And draw in your hand to your side; it will
come out white without disease - another sign,
23. That We may show you [some] of Our greater
signs.
Surah
An-Naml verse 12:
12. And put your hand into the opening of your
garment [at the breast]; it will come out white without disease. [These are]
among the nine signs [you will take] to Pharaoh and his people. Indeed, they
have been a people defiantly disobedient."
Surah
Al-Qashash verse 32:
32. Insert your hand into the opening of your
garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close to
you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to
Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly
disobedient."
Allah
SWT ordered Prophet Moses to preach to Pharaoh and the followers of Pharaoh in
Egypt. However, Moses was still afraid because he had once killed a man in
Egypt, even though it was to defend the weak. Moses was worried that he would
be arrested and punished by the kingdom of Egypt. Moses begged to be given
patience and peace of mind. Moses also pleaded with Allah SWT to send his
brother named Aaron to help with his duties. Musa felt that he was not fluent
in speaking to confront Pharaoh. Aaron was more eloquent than Moses.
Surah
Thaha verses 24-36:
24. Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has
transgressed."
25. [Moses] said, "My Lord, expand for me my
breast [with assurance]
26. And ease for me my task
27. And untie the knot from my tongue
28. That they may understand my speech.
29. And appoint for me a minister from my family
-
30. Aaron, my brother.
31. Increase through him my strength
32. And let him share my task
33. That we may exalt You much
34. And remember You much.
35. Indeed, You are of us ever Seeing."
36. [Allah] said, "You have been granted
your request, O Moses.
Surah
Al-Qashash verses 33-35:
33. He said, "My Lord, indeed, I killed from
among them someone, and I fear they will kill me.
34. And my brother Aaron is more fluent than me
in tongue, so send him with me as support, verifying me. Indeed, I fear that
they will deny me."
35. [Allah] said, "We will strengthen your
arm through your brother and grant you both supremacy so they will not reach
you. [It will be] through Our signs; you and those who follow you will be the
predominant."
Allah
SWT answered the prayer of Prophet Moses. Aaron was allowed to accompany him
while preaching. Allah SWT will provide protection for the Prophet Moses and
his brother, so that the Prophet Moses should not worry anymore. People who
uphold the teachings of Allah SWT will gain victory. That is the power of Allah
SWT.
Some
time after receiving the revelation, in Egypt, the Prophet Moses met Aaron
whose heart had been moved by Allah SWT to participate in preaching with
Prophet Moses. Then they both prepared to meet Pharaoh.
