Supporting space in the mosque is
indeed different from the core room. The core room is something that must be in
a mosque, such as prayer room, ablution place, and if needed there is a terrace
or porch. While the existence of supporting rooms is generally adjusted to the
category and capacity of the mosque. For a prayer room/musola, usually the
supporting space is not much and incomplete. If there is a support room in the
form of a library or warehouse, usually only made with sufficient size. For the
design of the Shahada Mosque which is part of the Betterpad-Ray (Benteng
Terpadu Raya/Great Integrated Fortress) model/maquette made for the size of a large
mosque and is part of a strategic building complex, supporting spaces are
needed because it can support the optimization of mosque building use.
The following are supporting rooms
designed for the Shahada mosque model.
Aside from being a place of worship,
the Shahada mosque has other more general uses to build the life of the Islamic
community, namely as a meeting room for discussion and deliberation. Since the
time of Prophet Muhammad who founded the Nabawi mosque near his residence, the
mosque was used for educational, social, political, and even military purposes.
Various fields discussed at the present time must be in accordance with the
times and issues faced by society,, nation and state, or global issues. Of
course, meetings or deliberations are carried out in the interest of the people
and are the right things that are blessed by Allah SWT. The Shahada Mosque has
a porch at the back of the mosque which can be used as a meeting room. With
semi-open space, the air flow will be smoother so that the atmosphere is cooler
in Indonesia's tropical climate conditions. In the building which extends to
the side of the Shahada mosque there is also a meeting room, especially
for mosque administrators.
The prominent function of a mosque
is the function of education. The assemblies which are the means of Muslim religious
learning are held in mosques, as well as for the Shahada mosque. Revelations
received by Prophet Muhammad while in Medina also while at the mosque. In the
mosque, Prophet Muhammad explained Islamic laws. This can prove that the
function of the mosque as a place to teach and study religion for Muslims.
Then, the mosque has been used by scholars to spread Islam. Things continue to
the present. There are a group of Muslims who study religion and read Qur'an at
the mosque by listening to lectures from scholars. It would be nice if it was
done with full seriousness and only hoping for God's blessing, especially for
Muslims who study.
I hope that in the Shahada mosque a
bookshelf can be provided as a library that contains books about the science of
religion and worldly sciences that are in accordance with Islamic teachings.
The shelves can be placed in the rear prayer room or porch. I also intend to
create a library space inside the Shahada mosque tower. These books may be read
by visitors. I like it when the books are arranged neatly on a shelf and become
a rule that is applied to visitors, for example there are fiqh book groups,
Islamic history books groups, aqidah book groups, and so on. These books should
only be read in mosques and must be returned for other visitors. If possible, a
group of library guards will be created who are also tasked with teaching in
Muslim assemblies or organizations.
Management office in left side |
Along with the progress of the times
and the increasing population, the mosque is not just a place of worship, but
also as a means of social activities. Because the level of service for each
mosque can vary, a mosque can serve people from other regions, not just the
surrounding community. Likewise with the Shahada mosque which if it has been
built certainly has a fairly wide scope of territory. Thus, management is
needed to manage the Shahada mosque. Generally mosque administrators are called
takmir. Takmir is an organization that will organize and manage the household
of the Shahada mosque. They regulate matters regarding the implementation of
worship such as the five-time prayer schedule, the arrangement of Friday prayer
times, fasting, tarawih prayers, managing the mosque's finances, fulfilling the
needs of worshipers, and so on.
For the smooth management of the Shahada
mosque, the management office is next to the mosque which is only very close.
Office space is also used as a meeting room so that the deliberations can run
comfortably. Because management of mosque management is important, the
existence of a management office must be planned well from the beginning of the
construction of the mosque or since the design. The existence of a good office
can revive the mosque as a center for Muslim activities. So this can have a big
influence on people's welfare.
In the Shahada mosque there is also
a warehouse for storing mosque equipment, such as carpets, mosque inventory
items, cleaning tools, and others. Audio equipment and sound systems can be
placed in the mosque warehouse located on the sides of the mihrab. Whereas other
equipment that might be dirty can be placed near the management office.
At the beginning of the development
of Islam, the tower was used by the muezzin to proclaim the call to prayer
(azan). That's why the tower is made higher than the roof of the mosque, so
that the sound can reach a wider area. Because of technological advances, the
minaret of the mosque was no longer used as a place to say the call to prayer,
but it was used to place loudspeakers, including those of the design of the
Shahada mosque. The existence of the tower can also be a pointer to the
location of the mosque, especially the Shahada tower design is unique because
there are Allah and Muhammad lafadz and a large clock which is expected to be
seen from a considerable distance. Shahada tower can also be used as an
observation place on the seventh floor (above the clock).
Hopefully the design of the Shahada
Mosque (Masjid Syahadat), which is part of the Betterpad-Ray (Benteng Terpadu
Raya/Great Integrated Fortress) model/maquette, can inspire and be realized. Aamiin.
