Light is the need for living things
on this earth, whether human, plant or animal. Light plays an important role in
the delivery of visual information so that it can be received by the senses of
vision and then forwarded to the brain to be processed into a decision. Humans
and animals are living things that possess and rely on vision in their
creativity so that they need the existence of light. Without light, the sense
of sight cannot function properly. Humans, animals, and plants need light to
grow and develop well.
Visually, humans can enjoy natural
beauty clearly because of the help of light. Trees with green leaves,
mountains, waves from the sea to the beach, flying birds and butterflies,
clouds floating in the sky, the moon and a collection of stars in the sky at
night, and various sights other than God Almighty creation, all of that can be
enjoyed because it is able to be accessed visually by the sense of sight
because it is illuminated by light, especially sunlight.
Light has a very large influence on
architecture. Lighting has a very important role in architecture, both in
supporting space functions and in carrying out various indoor activities,
forming images of visual beauty, and making people in buildings feel safe and
comfortable. The need for sunlight in the field of architecture for human needs
is not only seen in terms of structure and form, but also for human health. In
the layout of the building, sunlight also plays an important role in the
environment around the building. As renewable energy, sunlight can always be a
source of energy for human needs and activities. This enormous energy can
certainly help humans to switch slowly from increasing dependence on fossil
energy. With the reduction of fossil energy use, the emergence of harmful
exhaust gases in the air can be reduced so that environmental conditions get
better.
The Betterpad-Ray (Benteng Terpadu
Raya / Greay Integrated Fortress "Mural Wall") model is designed by
paying attention to the role of natural lighting as an effort to preserve the
environment and save energy. Natural lighting in buildings has a very positive
influence, for example during daylighting a room with sunlight is better than
with lights (lamp), then so that the room of a building is exposed to sunlight
so the room is not humid, reducing the use of electric lights during the day so
that energy saving , and the body feels comfortable while in the room. If the
room does not have access to natural lighting, it must always use the lamp so
that it is wasteful.
One of the buildings in
Betterpad-Ray Maket that utilizes natural lighting is the Civilization Pavilion
(Pendapa Peradaban). Civilization Pavilion is designed like a pendapa or
pavilion in general, a building that is supported by poles without a cover
wall. The absence of a wall causes a lot of sunlight to enter the pendapa, so
there is no need to turn on the lights during the day. One of the benefits is
that there are no objects that dazzle the eye (lights) when an activity is held
in pendapa, although for large events usually still use lights. Large size of
Civilization Pavilion is balanced by the height of the building so that it can
capture a wider area of sunlight.
Other buildings in the Betterpad-Ray
model are designed with a sufficient number of windows to receive good
sunlight. One of them is the Shahada Mosque (Masjid Syahadat) which has many
windows so that sunlight can illuminate the room inside even though it is a
building with walls. Betterpad-Ray Main Building also has a large number of
windows with sufficient size for the entry of sunlight into the room. People
who are in these buildings will be healthier than those in rooms with minimal
access to natural light by using air conditioners. The body that is exposed to
the sun will feel warm, not dizzy, and not easily sick.

This is the explanation of the
article about the Betterpad-Ray (Benteng Terpadu Raya / Great Integrated
Fortress "Mural Wall") model design. God willing, it can be realized.
Aamiin.
