Since ancient times, the Indonesian
people have interacted with other nations through trade and shipping,
especially in the port cities of the archipelago. In the current era of
globalization, relations between nations are easier to occur so Indonesian
culture is opened up to outside influences. Then there was a change in norms in
the lives of Indonesian people. For example what was once a prohibition has now
been accepted by the community. For example, ancient women who were generally
only in the kitchen, nowadays have professions and work according to their
expertise. Association of the younger generation today has also changed.
Children's attitudes towards parents in the present are also very different
from those of their parents. Javanese family (regional) who live in Jakarta
(the capital) rarely speak Javanese (regional language) well, especially
according to manners. There are cases of Javanese descendants who were born and
lived in Jakarta because their parents migrated, were schooled to their
parents' area (in the village) when they were little. These children usually
live with their grandparents. If they only stay for a while in the village,
maybe only one and two years, it is usually seen that their accent and language are
different from those of the village children, even though they try to use the
local language. But for children born in cities that live in the village for
years, they can also adjust their language use well.
In relation to architecture, it is
necessary to do research that how the application of traditional architectural
elements to new buildings is related to changes in social norms. This is indeed
still difficult to answer. What needs to be worried about the present
globalization is that the younger generation immediately accepts the norms or
habits from the outside without sorting them out first. Habits that come from
abroad can have a good and bad influence on the Indonesian people. If there is
influence that provides benefits to the Indonesian people, then it must be well
received and used as an example, for example the use of technology. But it will
be dangerous for the Indonesian people if the bad influences from outside have
become the habits of the Indonesian people, especially the younger generation,
for example impolite ways of speaking, open clothes, and so on. Indonesian
nation's norms must be maintained and preserved properly, for example, the way
and attitude of young people to older people must be polite and not arbitrarily
call their names, for example, they should be called "Mother",
"Father", "Sir" and so on.
The Betterpad-Ray (Benteng Terpadu
Raya / Great Integrated Fortress) model is designed so that the Indonesian
people love the culture of their own nation, especially in terms of architecture.
Betterpad-Ray Maket is designed in a traditional architectural style,
especially in pendapa buildings or can be called a pavilion. The existence of
this penitentiary made the present generation know that the Indonesian people
were already good at building and architecture. Pendapa have positive uses,
generally as a gathering place to discuss something. With open space without
walls, the flow of air that enters into it becomes smooth, causing coolness
when the air is hot because of the tropical climate. In addition, Pendapa is a
pavilion that has a high element of beauty and has a unique roof shape.
Although difficult, I hope that the younger generation can love the culture
created by their predecessors so that they can respect older people and be polite
according to the norms in Indonesia. Pendapa Peradaban (Civilization Pavilion)
in Betterpad-Ray is used as a means to preserve Indonesian culture, especially
for the younger generation, for example by training and staging puppet shows,
regional dances, songs and regional music. That way they can learn, understand,
and practice Indonesian culture, at least understand one field.
Basically, pendapa is considered a
typical Javanese architecture. However, it is hoped that the Pendapa Peradaban
design is more general, because if there is a performance, not only Javanese
culture is displayed, but also the culture of all regions in Indonesia from
Sabang to Merauke. In addition, the shape of the Pendapa Per civilization roof
also looks more common, the top part is not too tall and upright like the roof
of joglo (Javanese traditional house) in general. In order to look more
national, the pendapa pillars can be shaped like traditional houses in all
regions in Indonesia so that all Indonesians are enthusiastic about Pendapa
Peradaban if it can be realized. In addition, the Betterpad-Ray Main Building
can display cultural objects from all over Indonesia if used as a museum.

This is the explanation of the
article about the Betterpad-Ray (Benteng Terpadu Raya / Great Integrated
Fortress) model design. God willing, it can be realized. Aamiin.
