Traditional architectural studies
can be done to understand the cultural values of the community. The study takes
into account the usefulness, function, and social meaning.
The use of houses or buildings,
especially diverse traditional buildings, in accordance with the structure of
the population and culture of the population in a place. Basically, traditional
buildings have uses as a protection against the heat of the sun, cold air,
strong winds, and heavy rain. But there are also those who only use houses as
temporary resting places and can be moved because most of their time is used
for hunting, for example the Bedouin Arab tribes or Mongols in ancient times. A
group of people who have settled and have jobs as farmers who already have land
to cultivate who will continue to use the house as a place of refuge, rest and
chat with family after work, or to hold social gatherings.
The functions of traditional houses
related to socio-cultural life also vary. The house can function as a social
entity, its members are bound in economic cooperation such as married life, and
can function as a forum for educational activities (socialization) of its
members to learn to understand and live the culture by learning while working
(informal education). There are many different functions of traditional houses
/ buildings that are related to the structure and social and cultural life of
the community so that it presents a variety of physical appearance and diverse
styles and decorations. Houses can be a sign of one's identity for many tribes
in Indonesia. B is a person from group B, because he comes from or has a house
that B is seen from the decoration, appearance, and size. Houses can be
considered as a symbol of social, educational and economic status. Because of
that many rich people try to build a magnificent house with various styles and
shapes. Houses owned by established people symbolize one's success. Houses also
mean responsibilities related to the status of people who are married or have a
family. A person who has his own home is considered to have a strong position
in public relations.
Considering the importance of houses
in the social life of the community when viewed in terms of uses, functions,
and social meanings, the form and structure of traditional houses / buildings
can show the level of technology, lifestyle, and cultural values of the people
concerned.

design that is also combined with a modern style to fit the times.
Betterpad-Ray has a use as a public building that contains various facilities.
The Betterpad-Ray building complex can be used to do a variety of positive
activities, carried out by many people, or concerning the lives of many people.
Betterpad-Ray's building design is made to suit the tropical climate and can
provide comfort for visitors, for example, stay calm but can see the outside
when the hot air in the Pendapa Peradaban (Civilization Pavilion). In essence,
most of the facilities are indoors and still pay attention to the smooth flow
of air, such as ventilation. Betterpad-Ray building complex has a function as a
public building to display the form of national culture and as a place for
education and preservation of national culture. People can read books and look
at historical objects and direct practices in preserving culture, such as
dance, singing and painting. The Betterpad-Ray Complex can also show that Indonesia
also has a good civilization and can be acculturated with other cultures. With
a number of buildings that form a complex also shows the symbol of the strength
and unity of the people of Indonesia.
